Stephen Swales wins the VC Beverley Summer RR on 1st August
The first road race we have ever promoted ran like clockwork thanks to the excellent efforts of everyone who helped with organising, marshalling, driving and judging - including a few who would no doubt liked to have been out there racing!
We got plaudits from BC for the organisation and running of the event - and for expanding the local race calendar - so congratulations to everyone who helped.
As to the racing itself, a three-man break lasted several laps and was eventually caught, only for one of its protagonists. Stephen Ellis from Rutland CC, to fire himself off the front again and pull a good gap on his own. Stephen Swales then bridged up and the pair built up an unassailable lead. Ellis clearly decided he wasn't going to contest the sprint and sat up as Swales gunned for the line. The bunch came through about 30 seconds back. Great ride by Ellis, who really caned the pace throughout the race and certainly deserves a 'most aggressive rider' award.
Top ten will be confirmed shortly, but we know that Pete Fielding-Smith, riding in our colours, got in the points with 10th. Nice one, Pete!
More good showings in the E. Yorks RR league
Seven VC Beverley riders competed in rounds 6 and 7 of the league, with some good places. Results via the Hull Thursday home page.
Big numbers at the Big G
We had a great turnout for the Big G sportive on 17th July with 16 finishers in total. In the 160k ride we had 6 gold and 7 silver, topped by Andy Naylor who cruised round in a brisk 5:32. We also had 3 100k finishers, who all got gold.
Bunch finish in the crit
Paul W finished in the bunch on Friday 16th July (placed 25th) after a fast 33 minutes of mayhem in which none of the frequent attacks stuck. Gary Trees also started for VCB but having just got back from a 2-week holiday at 3.30am that same morning, could be forgiven for not finishing! Cool pix of the event on HU17.net.
Full sportive/race round-ups coming soon...
The above two events plus rounds 5 and 6 of the E. Yorks League (we got a 4th place in round 6) will be written up properly soon - watch this space!
No Dalby barbie on 22nd August
It turns out the club treasurer and chairman are now going to away this weekend so can't man the tongs for the proposed barbecue/club run at Dalby Forest. We'll try to get a new 'Indian summer' date for September if we can...

VC Beverley breaks away at Limber
Four VC Beverley members broke away from Group 3 to lead this TLI race south of the river on June 16th, eventually netting a 6th for Ben and a top 20 for Chris, Gary and Paul W. We held off the scratch group till less than 1k from the finish. Top teamwork and strong performances all round.
Solid performances in round 4 of the E Yorks league
No win this time but good work again from the VC Beverley racers, who worked hard but like everyone else had no answer to the unstoppable Adam Duggleby, who soloed to victory on 10th June. Chris 8th, Paul W 15th, Ben 18th, Rob 21st, Gary and Steve 30th and 31st. Full report and results on Hull Thursday here.
First race victory of the season for VC Beverley!
Congratulations to Ben Bell, who won round 3 of the East Yorkshire Road Race League on 27th May. Team-mates Chris, Gary and Steve all worked hard to stay away from pursuing groups right to the end and lead out the sprint. Rob and Paul W finished in the chasing bunch 33 seconds down. Steve Cooper was also in the points at 4th. After three races, Ben and Steve are 5th and 10th in the league respectively. Excellent stuff and a great team effort. Full report and links to results here.
Dates for your diary
Here are the next few dates as a quick aide-memoire:

13th August - social - 'non lycra' pub ride
Two new 'Goodmanhan Grovel' times
Klaus takes three minutes out of his April time with an extremely respectable 55:32, only to be pipped by Paul W who took just over a minute out of him a week or so later. Chris Holland still tops the leaderboard with a stratospheric 52:20. Full stats here.
