Fancy a combination of hard training, interesting roads, cameraderie and a bit of a road trip?
As I mentioned at the AGM I've been doing a 112k charity ride for the last few years, on a circuit starting from Windsor near London.
This year I've been asked to organise a team of riders to do it. So it occurred to me to see how many VC Beverley members I could get interested in it.
Because a) it's a long way to travel for a ride and b) no-one is going to sponsor us for doing a ride that's no harder than a club run, here's the suggested format:
* Team time trial - basically we ride the whole distance as a fast chaingang, aiming to get round as fast as possible, say in 3.5 hours or less. (I did it in 4:08 on fixed gear, solo, last year so that should be doable). We base the sponsorship request around how fast we get round - all suggestions welcome as to how to do this!
* Camping, BBQ, beers etc. - to keep costs down and make a weekend out of it I suggest finding a nearby campsite, organising some barbies etc. and making a bit of an afternoon/evening of it on the Saturday. We'd need to drive down Friday (the ride starts Sat AM early) and then we could head back Sunday. Alternatively we could drive back up to Beverley Saturday PM then go for a curry. Hiring a minibus would prob be easiest.
Anyway this post is to gauge interest and see what sort of chaingang we might be able to organise - post if you're interested and/or have questions/suggestions.
