I'm looking at getting some new wheels and totally overwhelmed with the different manufacturers, wheel specifications etc. Can anyone recommend some good makes/wheels with a budget of around £200-300?

Mavic are usually highly rated in quality and longevity in tests. I use some Aksiums on my winter/workhorse bike with no issues and ditto for my cosmic carbones . Both sets still run true and smooth.
By the time everyone's added their options you'll probably still be non the wiser! Good Luck :)
Planet X do quality stuff at reasonable prices, def worth a look.Posted 3 months ago # -
Yeah as dutchy said mavic are bomb proof and very popular, as it happens i have a new pair of mavic cosmic elites at the shop that have come off my new tt bike, there usually 355 but to any velo club member 300

Hi dave I have used campag wheels for past few years and highly rate them, they are bomb proof. Ribble cycles currently have the campag zondas at £279. Nats price for the mavics is good, ribble doing them
For £319. Planet x currently have the shimano rs80 carbon wheels at £299 their own brand carbon wheels are £399. lots to choose from dave!Posted 3 months ago # -
I'd shop local, Wilsons wheels are great guys and when you buy stuff from them they really look after you. £300 is a good price as well.

Agree with ben, theres nothing worse than mail order stuff going wrong and messing around posting stuff back and forth. Local bike shops are the way to go! plus you can empty the rest of your wallet looking at all things shiny and carbon...

Internet buying has its place but I would agree that buying local in most cases is important. Social interaction is declining in all areas of life, and who do we turn to in our hour of need - for some friendly bike related chit chat for that matter.
Internet buying will always be useful for some things, i.e. more choice, but I'll be using the local shop as much as I can from now on.

Wilsons will also price match internet prices and agree I would always rather give them my business where possible I was just pointing out to dave various options and prices
