you had ample opportunity for a wind swept ride through flat open fields a few weeks ago when we went to howden and turned back early cos you're too mediterranean.
Rob, I rode the route just before Xmas, I think it was about then and at a point somewhere after Sproatley, the route goes across country where not even a road or track exists, just a grass field and hedge, I just kept following the main road and eventually rejoined a good distance further on.
I'll look for my download then I can be more precise as to where it deviates, plus there is that odd spur at Sproatley where the route doubles back on itself, even though I had noticed it earlier, I forgot about it and just carried on and made a bit of a loop to rejoin further on.
Unless anything unexpected turns up, I should be there with my fancy Garmin dodah thingy mejig with the route slightly different and known to be on tarmac.
I've just checked your route Rob, and its just after Hilston when you rejoin the B1242, you come to a very sharp right hand bend, your route carries straight on into the fields, which then becomes a dirt track, then joins a road eventually. I carried on along the B1242, took the first left "Back lane" and then onto Humbleton road and rejoined, it was also the same distance so it was not a shortcut.
If you zoom in using sattelite view, its clear to see the error.

Judging the wind today it'll be tail wind heading out towards the coast.

I underestimated the wind strenght today, I thought it was just a gentle breeze,but when I got going, I thought it was me struggling, as usual,but when I turned for home, I was sailing along and then realised the wind was quiet fresh especially when it "pushed" me up Trundlegate.
I think its because we have had that many gale force 50 winds lately, I've forgot what a normal strong wind is.

I've rebuilt the course and removed the cross country parts etc, but I have also found on a bit I did not cover, another road near Sproatley, that only seems to exist in Bikeroutetoaster and Google Earth, it looks like another farm track. By removing that part means though that we will have to ride the same section of road twice, but its only for 0.2 miles.
I've never linked a route on the forum before so if my posting goes wrong thats why. I presume its just a copy and paste of the website.

It works, once again I have not completed the course back to Beverley as from Skirlaugh it is the same way home, and I know from experience, Garmins can sometimes get confused if a course is overlaid on itself and they don't know which way they are supposed to be following. Total distance is about 50 to 55 miles.
Record turnout today with 20 riders, excellent stuff. Thank you to everyone for waiting patiently for new young rider Matthew, who eventually had to call for backup on account of an old knee injury recurring.
Some fine new machines on show with Chris's handbuilt retro job and Rob's Cervelo.
Hope the rest of the ride went well with the usual batterfest at the end.
Let's wait for crap weather before doing that route again, it's far too pleasant bowling along chatting in the sunshine at recovery pace!
felt bad about leaving young matthew behind, guess he's learning the hard way (straight in the deep end) but hopefully it'll be character building and not soul destroying..No batterfest this week, although you could feel that it was going to happen at any minute, but noone put the hammer down. Great 3 hour tempo ride.
I felt very bad too, but thanks to Paul for sacrificing the ride to stay with Matthew.
Good route though but I agree it needs to be wet and windy to have the full effect.

i thought today was a proper winter club run, rode at a decent pace without causing anybody any problems.
It made a change if nothing else. Sorry we didn't come home all mud splettered but there's not much I can do about that.
